NFL Bet Types Explained

Six markets available at BUSR for every 2026 NFL game. Each explained with a real Week 1 example using current lines.

Point Spread

The most popular NFL bet. The favorite gives points, the underdog receives them. Both sides are usually priced at -110. The half-point eliminates a push.

Week 1 — SEA vs NE
Seattle -3.5 (-110)
New England +3.5 (-110)

SEA must win by 4+ to cover.
NE covers if they win or lose by 3 or fewer.
Bet $110, win $100.
Moneyline

Straight-up winner with no spread. Best for backing underdogs outright. Negative = favorite, positive = underdog.

Week 1 — SEA vs NE
Seattle -192 (favorite)
New England +160 (underdog)

Bet $192 on SEA, win $100 profit.
Bet $100 on NE, win $160 profit.
NE wins = +$160. SEA wins = +$100.
Totals (Over/Under)

Bet the combined score of both teams. No need to pick a winner. Works for every game, every week.

Week 1 — CIN vs TB
Total: 50.5 (Week 1’s highest)

Over: Both teams combine for 51+
Under: Both teams combine for 50 or fewer
Both sides priced at -110.
Parlays

Combine 2 or more bets into one ticket. All legs must win. Higher risk, significantly higher payout than singles.

3-team parlay example:
SEA -3.5 + KC -2.5 + DAL -2.5
Each leg at -110

Bet $100 — win approx $596.
All three must cover to pay.
Player Props

Bet on individual player stats for any NFL game. Available for every game at BUSR with alternate lines and boosts on marquee matchups.

Example props:
Josh Allen passing yards: O/U 268.5
Lamar Jackson rush yards: O/U 44.5
CJ Stroud TDs: O/U 1.5
Available for every game.
Futures

Back a team or player to win a season-long award. Odds shorten as the season progresses — lock in early for the best price.

Super Bowl LXI futures:
LA Rams: +600 (current favorite)
Buffalo Bills: +1000
Seattle Seahawks: +1000
Settles Feb 14, 2027.

How to Read NFL Odds

All odds at BUSR display in American format. Two types: positive and negative. Here is exactly how each works with real 2026 NFL examples.

Positive Odds (+) — The Underdog

A positive number shows your profit on a $100 bet. The bigger the number, the bigger the payout and the less likely the outcome.

New England Patriots +160 (moneyline vs Seattle, Week 1)
Bet $100 — Win $160 profit — Total return $260

Buffalo Bills +1000 (Super Bowl LXI futures)
Bet $100 — Win $1,000 profit — Total return $1,100

Scaling down: Bet $25 on Bills +1000 — Win $250 profit

Negative Odds (-) — The Favorite

A negative number shows how much you must risk to win $100 profit. The bigger the negative, the heavier the favorite.

Seattle Seahawks -192 (moneyline vs New England, Week 1)
Bet $192 — Win $100 profit — Total return $292

LA Chargers -11.5 spread at -110 (vs Arizona, Week 1)
Bet $110 — Win $100 profit — Total return $210

Scaling down: Bet $55 on any -110 pick — Win $50 profit
The Vig Explained The -110 price on NFL spreads and totals is the sportsbook’s built-in margin, called the vig or juice. To break even at -110 you need to win 52.4% of your bets. Win 55% and you are profitable long term. Line shopping between books — finding -105 instead of -110 on the same side — is one of the simplest edges a bettor can build.

NFL Parlay Payouts

Parlay payouts scale with the number of legs. All legs must win. Here is the standard payout table for -110 picks at BUSR.

TeamsOdds Per LegParlay Odds$100 Pays
2-team parlay-110 eachapprox +260$360

5-team parlay-110 eachapprox +2435$2,535

2026 NFL Sharp Betting Angles

Five situational edges to track throughout the 2026 season. These are the patterns sharp bettors use to find line value before the public catches up.

Angle 1 — Home Divisional Underdogs Home underdogs in divisional games cover at a historically strong rate. Divisional opponents play each other twice per season — coaches know the tendencies, the talent gap is smaller, and home crowds lift short dogs. Target home divisional dogs of +3 to +7 in the early weeks before the market adjusts.
Angle 2 — Fade Public Teams on Thursday Night Public money floods brand-name teams on Thursday Night Football regardless of situation. Books shade lines toward the public side, creating value on the under-bet opponent. TNF totals also hit the Under at a higher rate than any other day of the week due to short rest.
Angle 3 — Buy Low After Week 1 Losses Legitimate contenders that lose Week 1 see their futures odds lengthen immediately as the public overreacts. The Bills, Ravens and Chiefs have all opened slower in recent seasons only to make deep playoff runs. A futures bet placed after a Week 1 loss on a real contender often returns 30 to 50% better odds than the preseason price.
Angle 4 — Late-Season Totals in Cold Weather Stadiums Outdoor games in Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Green Bay and Kansas City are systematically underpriced on totals late in the season. Wind above 15 mph kills passing games. Check the forecast 48 hours before kickoff — if conditions deteriorate after the line is set, the Under becomes the sharp side before books adjust.
Angle 5 — Preseason Futures Before Training Camp The Packers (+1800) and Broncos (+1800) are two of the most underpriced teams on the current Super Bowl LXI board. Green Bay added Micah Parsons to a roster built around Jordan Love. Denver has Bo Nix entering year 2 with a full offseason in the system. Both numbers shorten once training camp opens and beat reporters confirm the improvements in person. Buy early.

NFL Betting Rules at BUSR

The most common rules questions answered before you place your first bet.

Do overtime periods count for spread and total bets?

Yes. At BUSR, NFL spreads, moneylines and totals are graded on the final official score including overtime. All points scored in OT count toward the total and the final margin determines spread results. If a game goes to overtime, your bet stays live until the final whistle.

What happens if an NFL game ends in a tie?

If the final score is tied after overtime, moneyline wagers are void and stakes are returned. Point spread bets settle on the final number — a spread that lands exactly on the closing line is graded as a push and stakes are refunded. Totals settle on the final combined score including OT.

What happens if an NFL game is postponed?

If a game is postponed before kickoff, all wagers are void and stakes are returned. If the game is relocated but played on the scheduled date, bets remain live. BUSR grades action on the official NFL box score, not the venue.

What happens to a same-game parlay if one leg is void?

If one leg of a same-game parlay is voided, the parlay is re-priced to the odds of the remaining legs and the bet stands. Only when every leg in the SGP is void does BUSR return the entire stake.

2026 NFL Betting FAQ

How does NFL point spread betting work?

The favorite gives points, the underdog receives them. If Seattle is -3.5 vs New England in Week 1, Seattle must win by 4 or more for the spread bet to pay. New England covers if they win outright or lose by 3 or fewer. The half-point eliminates a push. Most NFL spreads are priced at -110 — bet $110 to win $100.

What is the moneyline in NFL betting?

A moneyline bet is a straight-up winner pick with no spread. A negative number like -192 means bet $192 to win $100 profit. A positive number like +160 means bet $100 to win $160 profit. Moneylines are best used when backing a heavy underdog to win outright, where the small spread payout does not justify the risk.

What does over/under mean in NFL betting?

An over/under (total) is a bet on the combined points scored by both teams. If the total is 44.5 and you bet the Over, both teams must combine for 45 or more points. Under means 44 or fewer. Week 1’s highest total is Bengals vs Buccaneers at 50.5. Check BUSR for live totals on every game.

What is a parlay in NFL betting?

A parlay combines 2 or more bets into one ticket. All legs must win for the parlay to pay. A 2-team parlay of -110 picks pays roughly +260. A 3-team parlay pays roughly +600. Same-game parlays let you combine spread, total and props from the same game on one ticket at BUSR.

When does the 2026 NFL season start?

The 2026 NFL season opens Wednesday, September 9 with Seattle hosting New England in a Super Bowl LX rematch on NBC at 8:20 PM ET. The first full Sunday slate is September 13 with 12 games. Monday Night Football opens September 14 with Denver at Kansas City on ESPN/ABC at 8:15 PM ET.

Where is Super Bowl LXI being played?

Super Bowl LXI will be played Sunday, February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The Los Angeles Rams are the current favorites at +600, followed by the Bills and Seahawks at +1000. Live futures at BUSR.ag.
