2026 World Cup Betting Types Explained

Every major market available at BUSR for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a real example for each.

Match Winner (3-Way Moneyline)

The most common bet. You pick one of three outcomes after 90 minutes: Home Win, Draw, or Away Win. Bets settle on regulation time only. Extra time and penalties do not count.

Example: France vs Saudi Arabia. France -400 / Draw +550 / Saudi Arabia +1200. Bet $100 on France at -400, win $25 profit.

Draw No Bet

Backs one team to win but removes the draw as a losing outcome. If the match ends level after 90 minutes, your stake is refunded. Lower odds than a straight moneyline win, but reduced risk on strong favorites.

Example: Brazil Draw No Bet vs Morocco at -220. If Brazil wins, you collect. If it draws, stake refunded. If Morocco wins, the bet loses.

Asian Handicap

Eliminates the draw by giving one team a virtual head start or deficit. Sharpest market for value on match betting. Most popular with experienced soccer bettors.

Example: England -1.5 Asian Handicap vs Sudan. England must win by 2 or more goals for the bet to win. If they win by exactly 1, the bet loses.

Over / Under Goals (Totals)

Bet on the combined total goals scored in a match. Does not matter who wins. The standard line is 2.5 goals. Group stage matches between mismatched teams are strong over candidates. Knockout matches between elite sides tend to go under.

Example: Spain vs El Salvador. Over 3.5 goals at +130. Spain is a -500 group favorite. Backing goals is often a better value than backing the short-priced winner.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS)

Will both teams score at least one goal? Settles on 90 minutes. Strong value in competitive group matches between nations of similar quality.

Example: England vs Scotland. BTTS Yes at +130. Two nations that know each other well, both capable of scoring. Strong value in a group stage derby.

Group Winner

Which team finishes first in their group after three matches? Settles after the group stage. Top 2 from each group advance, but only the group winner gets the easier bracket path in the Round of 32.

Example: Brazil to win Group C at -526. Heavy favorite, but the odds reflect certainty. Value is in backing the challenger, Morocco, at +510 if you expect Brazil to rotate.

Group Advancement (To Qualify)

New in 2026: the top 2 from each group plus the 8 best third-place teams advance. Backing a strong team to qualify (not necessarily win the group) is lower risk and better value than taking the short group winner price.

Example: Morocco to advance from Group C at -150. Better value than taking Brazil to win the group at -526.

Tournament Outright Winner

Which team wins the entire tournament? Bets settle July 19 after the Final. Lock in early for the best prices. Odds shorten fast once the group stage begins and contenders emerge.

Example: Spain to win the World Cup at +450. Reigning Euro 2024 champions. Bet $100 before June 11, win $450 profit if Spain lifts the trophy.

Golden Boot (Top Scorer)

Which player scores the most goals in the tournament? With 104 matches, more goals are scored than in any previous World Cup. Strikers from teams expected to go deep have the best chance of accumulating goals.

Example: Kylian Mbappe at +600. Won the Golden Boot in Qatar 2022 with 8 goals. France is a co-favorite to win the tournament.

Player Props

Anytime goalscorer, first goalscorer, assists, cards, and more are available on individual matches. Best used for group-stage games where you have a strong read on which players will start and how a team will approach the match.

Example: Lamine Yamal anytime goalscorer vs El Salvador at +180. Spain’s best creative player against a heavy underdog. Strong value prop.

Live / In-Play Betting

Bet as the match unfolds. Lines update in real time. Best used when pre-match odds do not reflect what you are seeing on the pitch: a team dominating but yet to score, a red card shifting the balance, or a heavy favorite struggling against a defensive setup.

Example: Brazil 0-0 at halftime vs Morocco. Brazil’s live odds to win drop from -350 to -180. That is where the value opens up if you trust Brazil to find a goal.

2026 World Cup Betting Hub for Group Stage

The group stage runs from June 11 to June 27, with 48 matches across 12 groups. This is where the most betting value in the entire tournament exists. Here is the breakdown of every group with the betting angle for each.

Bet Group Winner

Group A

Mexico • South Africa • South Korea • Czechia

Mexico opens at home at Estadio Azteca on June 11 vs South Africa. Host nation pressure is real. South Korea is the best value to advance as a third-place qualifier. Czechia is the biggest underdog in the group.

Group B

Canada • Bosnia-Herzegovina • Qatar • Switzerland

Canada plays on home soil for the first time as a World Cup host. Switzerland is the dangerous pick to steal the group. Qatar is the weakest team and a strong underdog in all three matches.

Group C

Brazil • Morocco • Scotland • Haiti

Brazil is the heaviest favorite in the group in the tournament. Morocco at +510 is the best value to finish second. Brazil vs Morocco is the match of the group stage. Brazil totals over in their two easier matches vs Scotland and Haiti.

Group D

USA • Paraguay • Australia • Turkiye

The USA plays in front of home sell-out crowds. Turkiye is the dangerous underdog, with Arda Guler capable of making an impact off the bench. Paraguay is beatable for both the USA and Turkiye. Draw No Bet on the USA in all three group games offers strong value at short risk.

Group E

Germany • Ecuador • Ivory Coast • Curacao

Germany is a heavy favorite. Ecuador at +400 is a genuine value to finish second. Ivory Coast, with its attacking talent, can cause problems. Curacao is a massive underdog, and Germany vs Curacao is a strong over bet on total goals.

Group F

France • Saudi Arabia • Jordan • Uzbekistan

France should win this group comfortably. The value angle is backing France total goals over in all three group matches. Saudi Arabia shocked Argentina in 2022, so never count them out completely, but France is on a different level.

Group G

Belgium

Belgium • Egypt • IR Iran • New Zealand

Belgium is the favorite, but this is their last chance with Lukaku, De Bruyne, and Courtois in their prime years. Egypt at +450 is dangerous with Mohamed Salah. Back Belgium to win the group, but Egypt to advance as second is live value.

Group H

Spain • Uruguay • Saudi Arabia • Cape Verde

Spain is the tournament favorite and should cruise this group. Uruguay at +390 is the best second-place value with Darwin Nunez and Rodrigo Bentancur. Spain vs Uruguay is the group match to watch. Back totals under in that match, both sides will respect each other.

Group I

Portugal • Colombia • Ecuador • Cabo Verde

Portugal is the favorite, but Colombia, with James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz, is a legitimate threat for second place. Ecuador advancing from this group as a third-place team is a live angle, given the level of competition. Cabo Verde is an outsider.

Group J

Argentina • Austria • Algeria • Jordan

Defending champions Argentina are the class of this group. Austria at +450 is the best second-place value. Algeria, with its fast forwards, is capable of an upset. Back Argentina to win the group and score in all three matches.

Group K

Netherlands • Uruguay • Iraq • Panama

Netherlands should advance comfortably. Uruguay appears in two groups in the draw listings — check BUSR for confirmed lines. Iraq and Panama are both heavy underdogs. Back over 2.5 goals in Netherlands vs Iraq and Netherlands vs Panama.

Group L

England • Croatia • Ghana • Panama

England is a heavy favorite. Croatia at +350 carries a World Cup pedigree and will make England work. England vs Croatia is the group match that could define both teams’ paths to the bracket. Ghana is a dangerous dark horse if their attacking players are fit.

The Round of 32 — New in 2026 and How to Bet It

The Round of 32 is a brand-new knockout stage that did not exist in any previous World Cup. Here is exactly how it works and what it means for your World Cup Betting strategy.

How It Works

After the group stage, the top 2 teams from each of the 12 groups plus the 8 best third-place finishers advance to the Round of 32. That is 32 teams playing 16 single-elimination matches from June 28 to July 3. One loss and you are out.

Betting angle: The third-place qualifier system means weaker nations can advance from poor groups with 4 points. That creates mismatches in the Round of 32 where a top-8 team faces a lucky third-place qualifier. Strong over candidates in those matches.

Key Rule: Bets Settle on 90 Minutes

In knockout matches, standard bets (moneyline, totals, BTTS) all settle on 90 minutes only. If the match is level after 90 minutes and goes to extra time, your match winner bet on the leading team loses if they were drawn at 90 minutes. Always check market rules before placing.

Example: Spain vs a third-place qualifier. Spain wins 2-1 in regulation. Your Spain moneyline bet wins. If it went to extra time at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Spain’s moneyline would lose even if they win on penalties.

Tournament Advancement Bets

Backing a team to reach the quarterfinals or semifinals is a cleaner way to bet the knockout rounds. These bets do factor in extra time and penalties. Better risk management than single-match knockout bets.

Example: England to reach the quarterfinals. England must win their Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches. The bet survives extra time and penalties.

Knockout Stage Betting Strategy

Betting changes fundamentally once the group stage ends. Here is how to approach the bracket from the Round of 16 to the Final.

Draw No Bet Becomes Your Best Tool

In knockout football, draws are more common between evenly matched teams. Draw No Bet on the slight favorite removes the draw risk and gives you a refund if it goes level after 90 minutes. Essential for backing teams like Spain or France against other top nations.

Under 2.5 Goals in Elite Matchups

When two top defensive teams meet, goals are hard to come by. France vs Spain, Argentina vs England, and Brazil vs Portugal-type matchups have historically produced low scores. The under is consistently a strong value in these fixtures.

Backing Rotation Value in the Group Stage Finale

Teams that have already qualified for the final group game will rotate players. If Spain or France qualify with a game to spare, their third group match is a chance to bet against them at short odds as backups start.

Live Betting the Knockout Rounds

This is where live betting wins. A 0-0 at halftime in a knockout match creates massive live value on the eventual winner. The team you believe is better at 0-0 halfway through a knockout game is now available at much longer odds than pre-match. That is where BUSR’s live betting market matters.

Golden Boot Betting at BUSR

The Golden Boot goes to the tournament’s top scorer. With 104 matches across the expanded 48-team format, strikers have more opportunities than ever. Lock in your pick before June 11 for the best price. Here are the top players aiming for this trophy. Check the full odds list at BUSR World Cup Betting Odds →

England • Group L
