What is the Belmont Stakes?
The Belmont Stakes is the last race and the third jewel of the Triple Crown. The race is known as “The Test of Champions” or “The Run for the Carnations” because the winning colt or filly is adorned with a blanket of 1,700 white carnations.
The Belmont Stakes is normally held on the first or second Saturday in June, five weeks after the Kentucky Derby and three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. The Belmont Stakes will be worth $2 million in 2026, making it among the most lucrative races in North America, if not the world.
